Cosmetic Laser Procedures
Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation or “Laser” therapy consists of sending a special wave of light to a target in or below the skin’s surface. This light heats the area, creating a specific reaction to give the desired cosmetic result. All laser treatments are minimally invasive, relatively painless, and are associated with little to no down time. Laser skin treatment is an innovative, technologically advanced technique that can minimize conditions that are usually associated with premature signs of aging, unattractive facial veins, redness and sun damaged skin. Depending on the type of laser, the results of treatment are a youthful appearance and healthy looking skin. Laser procedures are designed for a multitude of aesthetic uses, including the treatment of light and dark skin tones, resulting in a greater level of patient satisfaction.
Intense Pulsed Light
Intense Pulsed Light treatments such as IPL™ Photo rejuvenation is a non-invasive skin and revitalizing treatment that corrects sun damaged skin, skin conditions marked by premature aging and other skin pigmentation conditions such as rosacea. The IPL™ is versatile because it can treat the face, the neck, chest and hands rather than a single isolated area. With a series of treatments, IPL™ Photo rejuvenation can help restore your skin to a more healthful and youthful appearance without the downtime or long recovery period as seen with other types of treatments.
Microlaser Peel
Microlaser Peel is an effective treatment for such skin conditions including wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmentary problems in both women and men of all skin types. It is effective for all skin colors and for sundamaged skin. One of the advantages of this procedure is that it offers optimal results with little downtime. Of course the rate of healing is different for every individual and depends on the depth of the treatment as well as the specific areas treated. For example, light resurfacing around the eyes and lips generally take only a few days to heal. A deep full facial resurfacing may take up to 2 to 3 weeks before you feel recovered enough to return to your normal activities.
Symptoms immediately following the procedure look like a sun burn, with mild peeling on the second day, and redness fading after the first couple of days.
Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal has proven to be a very popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. It is a non-invasive, convenient way to permanently reduce unwanted facial or body hair but is an ongoing process that requires multiple sessions for optimal results. This effective procedure leaves the skin looking smoother and silkier, replacing waxing, electrolysis and razors. Another benefit is that it is a gentle technique that can treat larger areas effectively because it removes more than one hair at a time with minimal discomfort.
The process takes from several minutes to several hours, depending on the area of the body involved. Laser hair removal uses a low-energy laser. The laser energy passes through the patient’s skin, being absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. A percentage of the follicles are instantaneously and permanently disabled with each treatment.
Sometimes a temporary slight reddening of the skin or localized swelling occurs after the treatment. You may need to use specially formulated skin care products, and/or a prescribed skin care regimen. Also, sunscreen is recommended for any treated areas exposed to the sun. In most cases, no anesthesia is necessary during the procedure, and you should be able to return immediately to normal work and social activities.
The ideal candidate, for most hair reduction lasers, has dark hair and light skin. Darker hairs will absorb more of the laser light, and lighter skin allows more transmission of the laser light into the hair follicle. Age, ethnicity, medication, hormone levels, and body area affect the length, coarseness and color of body hair which in turn will influence the results of any cosmetic laser treatment.
